Arts Advocacy 101 | April 21

Advocacy is about educating and informing elected officials, the public, community partners, and the media about the importance of arts and culture. It is up to artists, creatives, arts & cultural organizations, and our supporters to educate elected officials on the value of arts & culture, and the impact it makes in our communities.

Effective advocacy involves the ability to rally people around a single issue or goal, and to communicate those issues with legislators and decision makers. Participants in this session will learn the essential basics and strategies needed to be an effective advocate. The session will cover key areas:

  • Understanding the basics of advocacy
  • Developing an advocacy strategy
  • Cultivating relationships with legislators, legislative staff, and policy makers
  • Communicating with elected officials, the public and the media
